About Me
I have enjoyed teaching at Christ the King School since 1989!  I started my teaching career as the fourth grade homeroom teacher at CKS.  After having children, I began to teach math and science to our fourth/fifth grade students.  I later moved to the math resource position and have been working with our middle school math students ever since.  I am married with two adult sons, Dylan and Patrick.  Both boys are graduates of CKS and Father Ryan High School.  My husband, Mike, continues to volunteer regularly at our school. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, playing tennis and traveling. 

In My Classroom
My goal in the math classroom is to provide a variety of learning experiences which take into consideration the needs of all students.  I help students develop a growth mindset so they feel comfortable talking about mathematics and taking risks. Ultimately, I hope to instill a love for mathematics in each child that will stay with them throughout their lives.  

The Great Divide
At Christ the King School, students are divided into 2 different math sections when they enter middle school. In 5th and 6th grades, the classes are heterogeneously mixed with a student:teacher ratio around 15:1.  This allows for more small group work and increased teacher interaction. In 7th grade, students are divided for the first time by readiness.  Some students are placed in a general 7th-grade class taught by Mrs. St.Charles, while others are placed in an advanced class, Pre-Algebra, taught by me.  We look at several different criteria when considering placement: teacher recommendation, final exam grade, Star Math Assessment, Iowa Tests results, and work ethic. Mrs. St. Charles' students go on to take Pre-Algebra as 8th graders and the students in my class take Algebra I.
